Charles Ehlinger operates a public mill and gin valued at $4000 which used 200 cedar logs, 200 oak logs, 30 ash logs, 200 cottonwood logs, eight horses and a steam engine to produce 20,000 feet of sawed lumber. He had one employee who earned $20 per month.

C. Kesler [Kessler] operates a public mill valued at $4000 which used 1300 ash and oak logs and a 20 horsepower steam engine to produce 100,000 feet of planks. He had three employees and a total payroll of $75 per month.

Folts & Burford operate a blacksmith shop valued at $3200 which used 1200 pounds of slab iron, 3000 pounds of Eng. [English?] bars, 1000 pounds of round iron, 500 pounds of steel, and 2500 pounds of charcoal to produce 2000 disk plows, 3000 "S & B" [single bottom?] plows, and 2000 pounds of wagon iron. They had three employees and a total payroll of $100 per month.

F. Duncan [Dungen] operates a public mill valued at $3000 which used 500 oak and ash logs and a 15 horsepower steam engine to produce 62,500 planks. He had four employees and a total payroll of $60 per month.

The total value of real estate in the county was $2,400,300; the total value of personal estates in the county was $2,979,091. Both values were determined by the assessor and collector.

Residents of the county paid $7000.24 in state taxes, $3500.12 in county taxes, and $351.00 in poll taxes.

There were ten schools in the county, profiled as follows: a common school with 1 teacher, 27 students, and $400 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 28 students, and $160 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 28 students, and $300 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 28 students, and $500 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 35 students, and $200 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 40 students, and $400 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 38 students, and $350 in annual receipts; a common school with 1 teacher, 30 students, and $300 in annual receipts; Columbus Female Seminary with 3 teachers, 60 students, and $2400 in annual receipts; Colorado College with 3 teachers, 70 students, and $1800 in annual receipts. No school had an endowment, or received any tax or public money.

There were no libraries in the county.

There was one newspaper, the Colorado Citizen, an independent weekly with a circulation of 700.

There were ten churches in the county, profiled as follows: an Evangelical Lutheran church which will accommodate 200 people valued at $1100; a Methodist church which will accommodate 200 people valued at $300; a Roman Catholic church which will accommodate 400 people valued at $3000; a Roman Catholic church which will accommodate 120 people valued at $1000; a Union church which will accommodate 200 people valued at $300; a Methodist church which will accommodate 500 people valued at $3000; a Methodist church which will accommodate 350 people valued at $2000; a Methodist church which will accommodate 200 people valued at $1000; a Baptist church which will accommodate 800 people valued at $5000; and a Lutheran church which will accommodate 300 people valued at $1200.

No activity regarding paupers was reported.

One native born person was convicted of a criminal offense and was in prison on June 1, 1860. No foreign born persons were.

The average monthly wage of a farm hand with board was $20.00. The average daily wage of a day laborer with board was $1.00. The average daily wage of a day laborer without board was $1.50. The average daily wage to a carpenter without board was $2.50. The average weekly price of board for a worker was $4.00.
