Settled in 1821,
Columbus is one of the oldest towns in Texas. A strikingly elegant community that is authentically Texas, Columbus is
known for its vibrant, Republic-era history. The Columbus
we
invite you to discover, however, is a charming and hospitable one that
moves effortlessly to the syncopating rhythms of its past and its
present.
With almost
80 historical markers,
beautifully restored homes and
museums, centuries old Live Oaks and a
past as colorful as the wildflowers lining the roadways, Columbus boasts
a strong economy that is buoyed by its location between the three (3)
MSA's of San Antonio, Austin and Houston.
Although small, there are fewer than 4,000 of us,
Columbus offers a wonderful array of restaurants and boutiques that are
sure to fulfill both your practical needs and most whimsical desires.
You'll also find splendid cultural venues and a nice arra
y
of special events facilities.
These include the
1886 Stafford Opera House
which features monthly dinner theater and the
Live
Oak Art Center, housed in
the historic Brunson Building.
Thanks to our high
quality parks and recreational facilities, Columbus is rapidly becoming
known as an amateur athlete's paradise. The town's natural beauty,
gently rolling hills, and easy river access attract cyclists, runners,
golfers, and canoeists from across the country year-round.
