Muckleroy finally moved to Livingston, in Polk County, where, on November 28, 1885, he was killed in a saloon shootout by two other former residents of Colorado County, James M. Greer and William M. Greer. Muckleroy got off five shots, the Greer brothers eleven. Muckleroy was hit five times (see Colorado Citizen, December 3, 1885).
